Did something happen with Hanifin I'm not aware of? Cause he's been considered a future stud dman since before being drafted.

I'm finding it strange in this thread that some people don't seem to think Lindholm or Hanifin are extremely valuable commodities. Hanifin just scored 10 goals, 30+ points and only just turned 21. He's 6'3, skates like the wind. Like I said, is he not looking like a future Hamilton himself?

Can't really understand the reaction of being unbelievably pissed off if that was the trade. To me you'd be trading the slightly more established Hamilton for a kid who has exactly the same upside in Hanifin plus you'd be getting Lindholm on top of it who looks like a young top two line forward.

There's a disconnect here and I'm not sure if its because some people don't seem to value Lindholm/Hanifin or if some people seem to think Hamilton is one of the top young dmen in the game. Maybe a combination of both.
Hamilton is one of the top young defencemen in the game. He is elite. Reasons: every defenceman he plays with is substantially better with him than without him (in Boston or in Calgary), he scores points at 5v5 the 4th fastest of all the defencemen in the league over the past 3 seasons, he is a possession monster while playing against very difficult competition.

With Haniffin, he has had very good results so far but has also been very sheltered so we don’t know what he’ll be like when he’s not so sheltered. He might be great but we don’t know. This is not worrying because he’s 21. It’s just that you are hoping he becomes what Hamilton is.

With Lindholm, he is at the age where most forwards are in their offensive primes and Hamilton has outscored him over the last 2 seasons without a full year on PP1. The positives with Lindholm are that he plays against tough opposition and his possession results are good so you’re getting a possession driver if not an offensive dynamo.

Overall, I’d say the trade probably isn’t awful but the Flames are giving up the best player in the deal and generally when teams trade elite young talent they regret it. I’d want to see Carolina add a little more.
