As much as people are saying, the Cap is going to go to $80 million +, players and their agents aren't dumb, its likely if the cap goes up that much, player demands are going to go up proportionally.
Right now the Leafs have 22 million dollars in cap space on a 75 million dollar cap. They have 10 forwards and 4 defensemen under contract, their big signing is Nylander, who I expect is going to push for $7 million bucks.
Next year is the equivalent of nuclear Armageddon for the Leafs, with Mathews and Marner coming up to RFA, If Marner and Mathews have a monster season, you're probably looking at Mathews 12 and Marner 9 to 10.
All of these teams and fans that talk about turbo sucking and accumulating all of these top draft picks, and then react in shock when their window slams shut quicker due to cap constraints.

I agree with all this Captain although I don’t really follow the Leafs all that closely. Whereas the Oilers overpaid Draisaitl and Lucic was only going to be a long term problem, where have the Leafs gone wrong? Seems this is increasingly a league where top tier players get paid big $’s so you need value elsewhere.
