Listening to the interview, he's obviously in favour of the Olympic bid, but he doesn't think the World Cup should really have any impact on Olympic funding. As he points out, Canada will only be hosting about 12.5% of the World Cup Games, and the Americans will be mostly running the show. Edmonton will most-likely only get 3 games total.
From a logistics and cost perspective, it probably won't be much different for Edmonton to host 3 World Cup games than it is for them to host the Grey Cup. Rather than a bunch of drunken idiots from Saskatchewan showing up in their city, it will be a bunch of drunken idiots from other parts of the world.
I think if it was going to be a problem, it would have been shut down months ago. Everyone knew the World Cup was a near-certainty, so the Federal and Provincial governments could have said no to the Olympics at any time if it was going to be an issue. |
I wouldn't bet on it, Riderfans will still show up to the world cup with Rider Jerseys on.
