The mistake is to assume that there must be a motivation on Karlsson's end. It could be that she is simply wrong in her identification. This is not to absolve Caryk of being a terrible person—and there is mounting evidence to suggest she is just that, but she could still be innocent of the specific charges regardless of the quality of her character.
