One thing about Ryan, is despite being 31, he doesn't have a lot of miles on. I don't know if that helps or what, but most veteran 31 year old NHLers have 800+ NHL games or 1000+ professional games under their belts.
I'd have no problem if the Flames sign him as a Stajan replacement on a 2 or 3 year deal around $1.5 to $2.0 million. As Ashasx said, he's got good underlying numbers and is really good at face offs, plus he can provide offense and seems to compliment higher caliber players well too.
