Derek Ryan would be fine at the right cap and term. He gives us a bit more depth down the middle, adds a RH shot, and he gives us more options.
Our bottom 9 killed us last season. It is where Treliving will (and should) spend most of his effort this off season. Adding Ryan allows you to go forward with Gaudreau/Monahan, Backlund/Frolik, and Ryan/Tkachuk as your top 9 pairs. Plus, because Ryan is a low cap/term depth signing, he can get out of the way if Jankowski takes the spot.
If we are talking more then 2x2 I pass. But he makes us better if at a decent contract.
I honestly think any reasonable pick up is going to disappoint most here. Barring an unexpected pick up of Tavares, anything we do is going to have flaws and be easy to be negative about.
