We live in strange times. Most people are thinking of economic issues (really, their own personal financial situation) when they go to the ballot box, but our discussions about public affairs, in traditional media but especially on social media, are dominated by social issues. Maybe it's a generational thing, with 20 and 30 somethings filling twitter, tumblr, Youtube, and Facebook with culture wars, but come election time the 40-80 year olds walk into a polling station and vote for whoever is going to lower their utility bills.
