Even if they have Encarnacion with this current team are they making the playoffs? I don't think so.
They had to tear it down and retool the thing. But you still need bodies to play in the majors.
Long term I think this front office will ultimately get the Jays somewhere moreso than AA managed to.

This has been the discussion for a few years now and the consensus was always that the Jays would eventually get here. AA mortgaged a ton of future for those playoff runs and now the Jays are paying the bills. I would agree Shapiro/Atkins have made some mistakes but i'm not sure this outcome was avoidable. I mean Pillar is their only non pitcher on the roster who was drafted and developed by the team, with no one that close either, so I think that says a lot. Maybe they extend it a season or two, I thought they would this year, but it was coming.
Jays need to completely re stock and rebuild through draft picks so they can get some balance and some depth. So far i've been really encouraged by the draft results under Shapiro/Atkins so I think they are on the right track personally.
