Remember that Scotty complained that the Enterprise was pretty much built by Monkey's in Star Trek 5 so the ship barely worked.
I could buy what happened to the Enterprise in 2 (Their shields are down . . . of course we are one big happy fleet). And in 6 (A Bird of Prey that can fire while cloacked). Even with the shield frequencies in 7, they seemed to over emphasize how fragile the Galaxy Class ship was. Then in Nemisis they went way over the top with how powerful what's his face's ship was. Oh yeah they have like 1000 phasers and photon Torpedo Tubes.
At some point, the Enterprise which was written to almost be the living embodiment of a family member, went to being the weak family member wearing leg braces.
And by the way, the guy that decided that the whole saucer seperation was a way cool idea needs to be shot into the sun.
