Right. I disagree that the game plan sucked. They won more than they lost with the game plan. The problem was that instead of sticking with what was working, only with more intensity and drive, they'd implode.
Motivation and keeping the guys focused on the right things is a coaching (and team leadership function) so this isn't a non-criticism of GG.
