The Flames were on the power play for 450 minutes this season. They scored 43 goals, for a rate of 5.73 goals per 60 minutes, 4th worst in the league.
Vegas was at the halfway mark league wide with 7.6 goals per 60 minutes. Had the Flames been able to score at a league average rate, they would have scored an additional 14 goals, moving them from 5th worst, to 12th worst in overall league goals for.
A top 5 team scores 8.7+ goals per 60 minutes on the PP. If the Flames had a top PP, they would score an extra 22 goals, bringing them to exactly league average at total goal scoring.
Obviously, top end talent (that the Flames just don't have) plays a big part of a top PP. But I don't see any reason why a team shouldn't be able to be top 10 with the proper coaching. Hopefully whoever ends up being in charge of it can do a good job.
