The plight of the Capitals reminds me quite a lot of those great Flames teams of the eighties—consistently among the best in the NHL, but always unable to get over the hump and beat the stupid Oilers and their generational talent in the playoffs. Gretzky and his cadre of bad hair and nauseatingly entitled teammates undoubtedly stood in the way of a couple more Stanley Cups in Calgary.

Washington has my love for this.
Actually the only year i would say this is true is 1988. In 1984 the Flames really weren't that great. In 1986 they beat the Oilers. It was the sweep of 1988 that really hurt. The Flames should have won again in 1990 but lost to the Kings. 1991 was another battle of alberta - but the Oilers were a different team by then and yes the flames should have won that series too - but Gretzky was long gone by then
