This is at best presumptuous and at worst mildly offensive. I think more often than not the adoption of a "second team" is relatively arbitrary, meaning nothing more than that a person loves to watch hockey at the highest levels. Why should it mean anything else?

What a martyr. "Cubs fans" are pure as the driven snow in their single-minded devotion to their team—forsaking all others? Such nauseating drivel.

I seriously doubt that anyone—except perhaps for you in your inability to "suffer through the process of being a fan" pontifications—would disagree with you here. Yes. Many Flames fans will watch a lot of playoff hockey, and will very frequently cheer for other teams. And yes, this level of devotion and emotional investment utterly pales in comparison to what any sports fan feels for their favourites. If this is your resolution in the end, then I am completely mystified about your point in the first place.

Hockey is fun. NHL playoff hockey is the best sporting event on the planet. People who enjoy watching hockey will also enjoy watching the playoffs, and will find themselves—quite often inadvertently—cheering for one team, or a player over others.
Ah I see you have way too much time on your hands. I’m sorry my post was not essay proofed for your over sophisticated eyes. My apologies.

I was also responding to someone who was questioning why they should stay a fan of the Flames when there are far better alternatives. Keep picking and choosing when it’s convenient for you to be a smart ass, your posts are generally always demeaning and confrontational.

I was not attacking anyone for cheering for other teams when the Flames are out of the playoffs, but explaining how I do not understand how someone can be an equal fan of two competing hockey teams or having a “second” team when it’s convenient. Is my logic flawed? Absolutely, but I was just explaining my opinion on what I believe being a true fan means. I was not trying to portray myself as a better fan than others, which you clearly are saying I was trying to do. My use of the Cubs was just an example of fans who had to suffer through decades of awfulness and still mainted their devotion to the team. I did not think what I said was that outrageous but clearly you felt it was by your overly critical response. I guess that’s your thing tho
