In the Infinity War comics, The Magus is ultimately defeated as he's been given a false Reality Gem (by Thanos). Unaware of just how powerful the Gauntlet should be, the near-total power of the Gauntlet he does have convinces him he's truly the lord of the universe, while allowing a space for the heros to succeed in defeating him.

In Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos ends up incorporeal, Nebula gets the Gauntlet and Thanos has to help the remaining heros defeat her, in the process he realizes he doesn't think himself worthy of the power, and his destruction of half the Universe is undone.

I think we're headed for a combination of both of those endings.

I think Loki is dead, but he's become such a popular character and so many people like his face-turn that I think Marvel is going to milk it.
