It gets worse: Gunn also confirmed that the Groot from GotG1 really is dead, and the Groot from GotG2 and IW is not the original Groot re-generated (like most people assumed), but a whole new individual. With that in mind, new Groot wasn't being metaphorical with his last words being "Dad"; he probably really does see Rocket as his father.
