I really liked the Watchmen film, but also see why the appeal isn't as broad as the MCU.

I do think that you can explore deeper meaning within a superhero movie. For example, V for Vendetta dealt with a lot of political issues. Logan dealt with mortality. The Dark Knight dealt with the line between good and evil.
The Watchmen is also 10 years old basically and came out at a time where if they took the original content of the novel it probably wouldn't of been well received. I'd be curious on how that movie would look if it was created now with basically 10 years of really good comic movies out and Deadpool and Logan allowing them to go to that darker place.

But, It's a DC thing so they'd screw it up.
