We know that there is no unwritten rule, because NHL transactions do rarely occur during the playoffs. Last year the Stanley Cup playoffs began on 12 April, and then concluded on 11 June. There were three trades made during this time:

· 28 Apr: Carolina Hurricanes acquired G Scott Darling from Chicago Blackhawks for a third-round pick in 2017 Draft
· 9 May: Dallas Stars acquired G Ben Bishop from Los Angeles Kings for a fourth-round pick in 2017 Draft
· 31 May: Los Angels Kings acquired the rights to Bokondji Imama from the Tampa Bay Lightning for a seventh-round pick in 2018 draft
