95% of 2017 GMC Sierras have a towing capacity starting at 9100lb's and a payload staring at nearly 1800 lbs. Use 12% as a payload weight, giving you 720lb's on a 6000lb trailer, you have room for an additional 1000 lbs of cargo for the truck. The payloads and towing capacities go up from here depending on engine, transmission and gear ratio. There should be a sticker, usually inside the fuse panel declaring the wieght of the trailer as well as the GVW of the trailer. One would be amazed at the number of over capacity truck/ trailer units on the road every week end.
Kustom Koach, I believe, is the last of the Canadian made trailers and are far better quality then a lot of them that are out there. There will certainly be something wrong with it somewhere and certain things that need replacing given the year but that is part of the joy of trailer ownership.
Check out the
-Awning, open it up, holes/ rips tears/ mould
-Tires, RV tires are real POS
-The Jacks functional, included or not??
-fridge, could take an hour or two to cool down, as him to have it up a running when you get there, try all three modes, furnace to.
-Look for any water damage, leaking and check the floor for rotting of the wood. Just about any trailer that age that has had leaking, will have wood rotting somewhere.
-Hail Damage
Your trailer is insured by your truck while you are towing and you can put it under your house insurance (depending on policy)if you store it at your home for very little cost. Your house insurance will not cover it at a the campsite or at a seasonal lot.
