As usual, a good villain creates a good movie, and they hit it out of the park with Thanos.

Honestly Thanos was even better on second viewing.
The Soul Stone scene was just so well done. The tears running through the crevices on his face, the turn around in Gamora's emotions when she realizes what is going on, and then finishing it off with what looks like a parent dragging a small child to do something they don't want to do as he takes her to the cliff.
Between that scene, talking about having to hear Gamora say how much she hated him every day in front of the throne, and the flashback scene on Gamora's home planet, they really built a villian that was terrifying while also really humanizing him.
Just all the little things they did to develop Thanos as a character, even just subtly running his hands through Wanda's hair and calling her my child before finishing off Vision.
