I have been told that Iran is out and I am not keen to fight bus queues in China or downpours in SE Asia. We won't take a package holiday and want some comforts along the way.

I am completely up in the air so any suggestions would be awesome.

The nice thing about going to Europe is its so compressed in a lot of ways that it encourages exploring. Plus the architecture is stunning and a culture shock for most north Americans.
