I think it says something about how professional you take your position, and how professional you project the company you represent.
Go to a job interview for a professional job with green spiked hair and see how that goes for you.
I don't think dismissing someone for being unprofessional gives him the upper hand.
Now, if Burke had done a magnificent job, people overlook his appearance. The fact he didn't makes his appearance an issue.
