Biggest difference was he shot 9.4% in Carolina, vs 13.3% in Minnesota. This year he shot 17.4% - which accounts for the next big jump up in his production.
Those two seasons in Carolina are the 1st and 3rd highest shooting percentages of his career, and he is an 11.2% career shooter.
That last season in Carolina where he lost all love of the game... he shot 6.5% - by far the lowest of his career.
So really he's a guy who has actually been good his whole career, but had one terrible shooting percentage season where he shot almost 5% below his career average and people thought he was washed up because of it.
But yeah it's all Bill Peters fault.

Are you arguing that it wasn't Peter's management skills that were in conflict with Staal but his High Corsi low shooting % system that drove Staal to question what he was doing playing hockey?
