Treliving and his staff would have no doubt done detailed analysis on their coaching styles and determined they aren't what he/they want.

I disagree. You can learn a lot in an interview. AV isn't going to stroll into the Flames headquarters and say; "Brad, my record speaks for itself. I have nothing to add". I'm sure any unemployed coach that is serious about the job is investigating all the rosters of teams like the Flames, watching film, evaluating players. Treliving could learn a lot from what experienced winning coaches like AV and Sutter would have to say about his roster and how they think the team should play even if he doesn't hire them. There are absolutely zero negatives of interviewing experienced coaches that have had success.
