I can understand the reaction, if people are like me, you really don't know what you are getting from a coach you don't see much of and doesn't have a huge tenure, so all you can look at it record, and of course Peters is underwhealming. But as many have pointed out, coaching is a pretty hard thing to evaluate at the best of times.
But the coaching debates on here are very indicative of how black and white people try to make things. When we hired GG, the narative on here was mostly (if I remember correctly) absolute fear that the Flames would go out and hire one of the more tenured known quantity coaches. People were pleading for BT to follow the trend of the new NHL and hire a "new era" coach, which is what he did. Now that that didn't work out, people are raging against hiring another less than known entity and begging for veteran coach with a proven tack record.
From all reports, Peters couldn't be more different than GG in style, but obviously they are similar in that they haven't proven themselves yet. I have no idea if this will be a good hire, but I do suspect that this will be BTs last coaching selection as GM of the Flames if it doesn't work out, and I'm sure BT suspects that (if not knows it) so at least we know this is the guy he wants to ride his job on. We'll see what happens.
