I absolutely agree with this and they are impact deals for sure. But it must be a different process to go through vs. calling about specific players. I really do see it as an auction vs. a trade.
I had high hopes for BT based on how he handled those initial deals and I thought we had ourselves a real smart, next great GM kind of guy.
But I'm both puzzled and disappointed at the last 18 months or so, and feels like we have gone from playing a long game to the "just get into the playoffs game". I am concerned we could see a Hall for Larsson type trade this summer and would almost prefer a deal to get some draft picks and leave it at that.
Feaster screwed the pooch on the Iginla and Bouwmeester deals, particularly because he let the other teams throw in garbage to supplement the first round picks. We'd have been so much better off just getting more picks as part of those deals. Very lucky that Berra was turned into a 2nd rounder, which I'm thinking was 100% because of Colorado's incompetence.
