Not really that disturbing to me, though I agree the open discussion in front of his young children is a little unnerving. I think obviously his son Badr was not one of those as he alludes to him starting his own position soon.
I think you might have a similar discussion with anyone who carries out capital punishment anywhere in the world.
Also, personally, I don't see beheading as any more cruel than any of the methods used in the US. It's quick and painless. The only question is what offenses does the Koran demand this punishment for. I have no idea but I imagine some of them would seem trivial to us.
