Although when I was listening to Treliving's presser and subsequent interview, I clung onto his "veteran coach" and "that's not an issue" (when asked about money.
Now, while I fully admit that they were leading questions (and what else could he possibly say with regarding the possibility of hiring a coach with a high salary?), I am still choosing to cling onto this.
I just don't think that Treliving can be wrong again. He needs to hire a coach that can come in and right this ship. Can he 'gamble' on a relatively unproven coach who has either never coached in the NHL, or never coached in the NHL as a head coach (only as an assistant), or who only has limited coaching experience in the NHL?
Like I said, I didn't watch the Canes all that much, and they had a fairly up-and-down season themselves (they seemed fairly inconsistent to me), it really does seem like a lateral move in a number of ways.
If it does end up being Peters, well, I will approach the hire with an open mind (as I will with any hire), but there are definitely some flags popping up for me the more I think about it.
Can't wait until we hear about interviews.
