I agree. It discourages anyone who has the experience and knowledge on the subject from participating.

For those that believe that life may extend beyond our planet, I believe the find is quite significant for the following reasons:

1. The meterorite is of a rare carbonaceous composition, and carbon is known to be one of the building blocks of life.

2. The situation in which it was found is very unusual i.e. on an ice covered lake shortly after impact. That, plus the manner in which it was handled, maximizes preservation and rules out contamination.

I agree that what the scientists find in their investigations is purely speculative. I would also caution that a lot of what is published on subjects of high interest like this, are designed to sell newspapers, etc.
