If that were an issue, they likely would have insisted on keeping the current staff, because now they will have to pay both the current staff and whoever is hired to replace them.

If you are willing to spend to the cap for player personnel, you may as well spend on management and staff to get the most out of them.

Abysmal special teams, unacceptable fragility in adversity, a horrible home ice record and a boring style of play were the hallmarks of this year's Flames, and the coaches did nothing to address any of these issues. I know that coaches don't care if the style they teach is boring, but if the team is losing and boring, ownership knows that it won't be long until there are a lot of empty seats, and that would affect the bottom line more than the cost of hiring a real coach.
