We're pretty much already in Gilbert/Playfair/Hay territory. Short of a coach running a Marc Savard out of the organization, I'm not sure how it could get worse. Is he going to find a coach whose team craters halfway through the season instead of the last quarter? A coach with a powerplay that's worse than 29th? An even less entertaining on-ice product to turn even more hardcore fans away? A coach that will wait till game 70, instead of 50, to put their most offensive d-man on the first pp?
I'm just not really seeing the issue here. Never mind the fact that there are guys like Vigneault and Sutter on the market, I think at this stage you could take any semi-respectable assistant coach in the NHL and get the result this coaching staff achieved this year with this lineup.
