I don't think Calgary is an any position to be trading more futures away. We are not a Cup threat that just needs that extra push.

I like ROR, but I believe roster players would be going back in any deal. Namely Backlund and Brodie. If we think that is an overpay from a Calgary perspective, then it might actually be fair to Buffalo.

As for Backlund, I see him as a slotting problem in Calgary. We play him on the second line because of his overall skill level, but to excel in a second line defensive role, you need an elite centre on the first line, to cause more juxtaposition for the opposing team. Buffalo can use Backlund, because they have a player of Eichels quality on the first line.

In contrast, Calgary needs more balanced scoring from the centre position. The swap of centres potentially helps both teams, and the addition of Brodie makes up for ROR being the more talented player.

As for Brodie waiving to go to Buffalo, I woulded worry too much. It's rare enough that when someone refuses, it's league wide news. He may want a fresh start after the last year and a half.
I agree with all of that and you might be able to get ROR and their second round pick or a depth contract. Maybe Beaulieu or McCabe.
