Dougie is easily our best defensive asset currently. With his age, size, contract, skill he brings a ton of value to the Flames and he hasn’t even necessarily hit his ceiling.
When we got him from Boston many of us ignored the hate that spewed from that city from the fan base. They justified the move by claiming he was an “uppity loner” the media had just as much disdain for him there as they do here. In my opinion there is no doubt that acquiring Freddie was part of his co tract negotiation (rumored by the media).
There is no doubt the guy is a great player but he doesn’t scream “number 1 Dman” or strike me as someone who would wear a letter. I think the Flames can get a lot more for him than they gave up so now could be the time to make that move. His age and contract make him attractive to contenders or rebuilding teams.
A team like the Sabres who want out of the rebuild cycle might be willing to part with a combination of assets that include 1st (if they fall to 4th), RoR, Reinhart, Nylander
As discussed Toronto has 2 young right shot wings that would be appealing.
Arizona has some good young pieces like Domi, 1st, Dvorak, Strome, or maybe OEL
Would Dallas consider moving Seguin?
Florida has some nice young players, Carolina is looking for a shakeup, if a team is bounced in the first round unexpectedly they could be in the market for Dougie.
I am willing to roll the dice that Brodie will bounce back under a new coach and a move to the right side. I think Dougie is the player we dangle to shake things up and most importantly add scoring. Look at Boston with Carlo and McAvoy they do not miss Dougie really at all. Hopefully Andersson, Valimaki, Kylington, and/or Fox can do the same for the Flames
