I don't think anyone is asking for a positive reinforcement echo chamber, rather I think people (at least me) are just asking for people to be cordial. To substantiate your opinion beyond "Are you even watching the game idiot". To debate with the intention of challenging a person's assertion or opinion without resorting to strawmen or personal attacks. Some people already do this, but the noise to content ratio has certainly gone up a lot

I think it's important to realize it's not about making people feel good about themselves(though it's a nice side effrct) but rather the quality of discussion goes down by a lot when a snarky condescending post is made in light of one with some thought and intention behind it
