I agree, although I do think that some players don't work well with GG's system because it's too formulaic. That's good for consistency of play, but it's horrible for adaptation to new challenges throughout the season. My point in discussing the system that created shots but few goals shows that they didn't deviate much from the coach's game plan, probably to their detriment. Brouwer knew how to be successful with that plan, but few others probably knew, or at least knew HOW to do it well, and it's a team game, so we can't put it all on Brouwer, especially if his linemates aren't able to be successful under that game plan.
I guess that I'm still not sure what the problem was this year, but it's clearly multi-factorial. However, the coach and game plan are connected to all those factors, so I think the buck stops with him. The talent was good enough to at least get in the playoffs, so they probably should have been there and I think GG needs to shoulder the majority of the blame.
