I wonder who he's talking about? My bet is Brodie or Bennett or brouwer and here's why: when you feel stuck in your pigeon hole, it's human nature to become emotionally detatched from your position in life and just "go out and do what's asked of you" while have as little emotional investment as possible. Anyone who has been in a bad work environment will understand this where you have a terrible boss who wants things does "his way" even if they're the wrong way.
Brodie - forced to play the wrong side. I could see how he might get emotionally detached.
Brouwer - fourth line role after being pegged to potentially play the first line when signing here. He's obviously a bottom six player but in his head he's probably a top 6. His exit interview last year reeked of selfawareness. I can also see how a vet wearing an A and making 4.5m per season doing nothing could poison a locker room culture.
Bennett - complete loss of confidence. The system doesn't fit his hard checking, fast transition ways. Given his young age and high pedigree I can see a situation where he might have trouble handling this type of adversity and detatch.
IMO the fact that Bennett didn't thrive in the system tells you everything you need to know about the system. If Bennett is traded before we get a new coach I'm going to be extremely disappointed. In my head, bennetts ability to thrive in this league is as obvious as the need to replace gully was in November. It should be clear to anyone with an eye for the game that he's core skills are built for today's game.
It's entire possible that Bennett needs to play fast to be at his best. And the flames play slow which is what is constraining his ability to be effective and end up taking a lot of penalties (pent up frustration and energy).
