Seriously, I want Treliving to write a book when he's retired and explain this. I cannot think of any other reason other than he wanted a pillow for a coach to baby the players, as opposed to the tough love from Bob Hartley.
It aggravates me just thinking about these hires.

GG is a smart guy and a smart tactical coach and student of the theoretical game. There is an hour chat of him doing a coaches conference on YouTube fwiw.
But all the theory and stats and tactical and opponent preparation isn’t quite enough. Adaptability, making changes in game based on game feel, and being able to push players past their limits at certain times is also needed to be successful, and he lacks that ability and credibility and trust from his players to be able to lead them...more importantly, yes he doesn’t have that success in the NHL for players to look to in trying to trust him.
A great assistant probably, just not the leader that a team like this needs to push.
