Maybe a brodie- domi swap or something similar...

Gaudreau - Monahan - Kane (or JVR)
Tkachuk - Backlund - Domi (or other Brodie trade)
Bennett - Jankowski - Athanasiou
Lazar - Shore - Frolik

Gio - Hamilton
Kulak - Hamonic
Kylington - Andersson

Edit: I prefer athanasiou to wood only because one is producing on an over performing team while one is on an underachieving team, and athanasiou has also seen ~20 goals twice now.
Agreed. I like the player Kane instead of JVR. I still question whether his character will be a problem but if Flames management doesn't, he's the better player and brings a lot more edge to his game than JVR. I'd also target Athanasiou first. I think he is the better player.

The only worry I'd have for what you've suggested is having 2 unproven NHLers on D (I really like Andersson, and he has looked great in the last couple games, but I'd want to see him in 30 more games before declaring he's an NHLer). While I think playing 2 rookie D is a gamble that could pay off, it could also explode into a terrible mess. I think my preference would be moving the other of Stone or Brodie during the season if it turns out Andersson is playing lights out and is a surefire NHLer. It will also give the Flames a chance to see if Valimaki or Kylington is the better option and ready to bring up. I'm also not against moving Ferland, but to me you need to bring back someone who can fight and play if he is gone. I think that may be really difficult. There are not too many of those guys.
