James Neal will be 31 by the start of the 2018/19 season, and is going to get PAID this summer, as he is one of the top available UFAs. His cap hit now is $5M, so he'll probably get more than that and for at least 4 years. Like most UFA contracts, it has the potential to look horrible almost from the day it is signed. Good chance he'll just re-sign in Vegas as well.
Vanek turned 34 a few months ago. He's a big time pass for me, unless it's at about 1.5M for one year. Even at that, he's never seemed like a player who turns it up when the pressure is on, so for a team that has that problem in spades already, I would likely still pass on him.
