It's been mentioned multiple times but worth repeating; the cost of the Olympics today is a vastly more expensive world even factoring in inflation than the world of the 1988 Olympics.

That's the big difference to me.

If they go to plebiscite they better have a few details ironed out. Will there be a new arena, what is actually going to be built infrastructure-wise, and what is the estimated real cost. Since we know $4.7B is likely very, very, very light and a bare bones approach.
