If Nintendo made a proprietary charger and charged Nintendo prices for it, it would be criticized as a cash cow. And let's be honest, it would be. If they properly used the USB-C standard for charging, they'd be leaving a lot of money on the table, but people would be praising the move as giving them more flexibility, freedom, savings, etc.
The problem is, Nintendo has somehow managed to do both and neither of these things at the same time.
