Yep. I couldn't disagree more with those who think the Flames need more grit, size, or truculence.
Almost all of the forwards simply don't produce. Ideally, I hope the Flames acquire players like Backlund: they can produce, but they're still good defensively. It would be nice if they signed a bona fide goal scorer or play-maker this summer.
If you aren't able to score, you better be a gem defensively (like Hamonic).
See Tampa Bay. A bunch of small, fast and skilled forwards. On the back end, they have a bunch of defensive defensemen. Although Hedman and Sergachev certainly can produce.
Again, who cares about toughness. The Flames need depth. Depth in skill, defensive awareness, and speed.
This will make the special teams better.
That, and better coaching.
