What should the lineup be for the rest of the season?
It's over and everyone knows it (even if Brad won't say it publically)
Now the Flames have 7 games left to get a head start on next season that some other teams don't have. Now, the Flames aren't exactly an organization that takes advantage of their advantages, but it's fun to pretend.
First, I can the whole coaching staff. Replace em with anybody.
Second, I shut down the injured players. Monahan/Tkachuk/Brodie/Smith are all done for the year.
Third, I use the Flames two remaining call ups on Foo and Kylington.
Fourth, I free Backlund from his purely defensive role and let him display some offense that the team desperately needs.
Fifth, Brouwer has played his last game as a Flame.
So, forward lineup:
Gaudreau-Backlund-Bennett
Ferland-Shore-Frolik
Versteeg-Jankowski-Foo
Lazar-Stajan-Hathaway
Brouwer, Stewart, Glass
Everyone but Gaudreau and Backlund will be evaluated almost wholly on give-a-#### level because most of those players should not be comfortable calling themselves NHLers right now.
Sixth, I plan for significant changes to the d-men over the summer and evaluate the heck out of Andersson and Kylington. They should be more than ready by now. This also gives a chance to test Hamilton's ability to carry a pair.
Giordano-Andersson
Kylington-Hamilton
Kulak-Hamonic
Stone, Bartkowski
Seventh, I send Rittich back to Stockton to carry them to the playoffs with the understanding that he will be the backup goalie next year, 100%. He displayed enough this year for me to be comfortable in saying that.
Gillies
Emergency call up (Parsons/McDonald/Schneider)
It might be a little drastic, and I do hate to bench Stone because he has been a good soldier (maybe move Hamilton to #1 RW to make room on the backend if we want to go full nuthouse), but that's what I would do.
