While I think hockey managers and coaches can be over-reliant on analytics, I don't buy the notion that coaches have to be leaders of men rather than teachers.
Was Scotty Bowman a leader of men? No, he was a cold, manipulative, unlikeable student of the game. How about Ken Hitchcock, is he the kind of guy who young men follow into battle? Nope. He's just wicked smart when it comes to hockey. Mike Sullivan isn't exactly a passionate and inspirational guy behind the bench either.
I don't think GG's demeanour is the issue - it's his inflexibility and lack of ability to adapt to changing in-game situations.
