My son has also been double shifted so many times in a game he could hardly move after. He didn't want to play quad anymore because it simply wasn't fun - it was more like a job.
And don't give me the he must not be cut out for it crap - I get letters and phone calls all the time from recruiters and US schools for him to go play - but I also get them for football and that's what he has decided he wants to do...
I get it your living the dream with your kid - I've been there - done it too, I've also been on the other side of it where I didn't care about my players - they were pieces to get me wins ...I couldn't sleep at night because I was so worried about my job because it simply comes down to wins and losses.
I'm not saying that at the highest levels it should be equal playing time - not saying that at all and I get it... But my initial comment was in regards to Novice age players and 9/10 yrs old and if you believe they should be sat and double shifted at that age your part of the problem...
But you'll wake up one day and see it for what it is - we all do...

Your tone is very condescending. I think most of us are talking about getting double shifted in elimination games and third periods of playoffs. I'm not sure managing ice time for 10-11 year olds for a normal game in January is in any person's best interests.
If you want to play for fun there are clearly different avenues for you to take, but if you want to play competitive hockey, there's a pecking order, just like life. I'm not sure telling your kid that it's wrong for the best player on your team to get double shifted in the third period Mac's Midget Final is beneficial either.
