I guess I just never got Clone Wars, sorry this is speaking to photon's point above. I'm on season 4 in that series and I have STRUGGLED to get here. I watch it sporadically mostly just trying to tough it out because everyone says the last few seasons are the best.

I feel like everything past season 1 in Rebels has far out weighed anything I have seen so far in Clone Wars. But then again I've always found the prequel's political angles very boring. I enjoy the Rebel Alliance aspect in the OT and I like watching the various heads interact. But for whatever reason anything Senate or Jedi Council related in the prequel material just puts me to sleep.

I thought the second half of season 4 from the Umbari storyline and on was really strong.

General Krell was one of the darkest characters on the show. Especially this.

After setting up a ambush between Clone Troopers that lead to countless deaths. Krell was captured and bragged about it and it came down to why the Jedi were going to fail and the Clones would do it

Captain Rex:
Why General? Why kill your own men?
Pong Krell:
(chuckles) Because I can. Because you fell for it. Because you're inferior.
Captain Rex:
But you're a Jedi. How could you?
Pong Krell:
A Jedi? (laughs) I am no longer naive enough to be a Jedi. A new power is rising. I've foreseen it. The Jedi are going to lose this war and the Republic will be ripped apart from the inside. In its place is going to rise a New Order and I will rule as part of it.
Captain Rex:
You're a Separatist.
Pong Krell:
I serve no one's side, only my own. And soon my master...
Captain Rex:
You're an agent of Dooku.
Pong Krell:
Not yet, but when I get out of here I will be. After I succeeded in driving the Republic from Umbara, the Count will reward my actions and make me his new apprentice.
Dogma:
How could you do this?! You had my trust, my loyalty, I've followed all of your orders, and you made me kill my brothers!!
Pong Krell:
(laughs) That's because you were the biggest fool of them all Dogma. I counted on blind loyalty like yours to make my plan succeed! (laughs)
Captain Rex:
That will never happen. You're a traitor, General, and you will be dealt with as one.
Pong Krell:
You never learn Captain. The Umbarans are going to retake this place, and when they do I will be free.
