Between the health issue, the decline in production and his awful 2-way play, it's an awful risk tying up that much money with the players we'll be looking to sign over the next few seasons.
You can argue the player might not be declining (debatable) but the contract is awful and a huge risk.

He is on pace for 50 pts this season...was on a 57 pt pace last year...on truly bad hockey teams.
Im not advocating acquiring him or not, but he is neither a "bad" player nor a liability. Oh, and he fills a huge hole on the club at that.
He would have been the 3rd leading pt getter on this team last year at his pace, and is less than a year older than Backlund....who just signed for an even longer time than Okposo would be here at almost the same dough.
Sure his numbers may be a bit better playing with a guy like Tavares...who's wouldnt. Doesn't mean he is not a very good hockey player in his own right...because he is.
