Shooting a career low 7.7% on a team with arguably the worst puck moving blue line in the NHL. While being a RHS forward on a team with too many of them between himself, Eichel, and Reinhart filling overlapping offensive niches, a non-issue on the Flames who haven't had a top six skilled RHS forward since Iginla and whose future hopes lie in Matthew Phillips and Eetu Tuulola.

You are describing every top six forward contract over 30, minus two years.

Well, I mean, if the idea of, in some universe, simultaneously dropping Brouwer and adding a legitinate top 6 forward does not make sense to you, that's cool.

And thus any trade for Okposo or ROR or even Kane would obviously have extranneous salaries like Stone, Brouwer, and/or Frolik going the other way.

and that contract has the potential to be Brouwer level bad.

Well, no. You are comparing what is probably a solid first liner to what was probably at his absolute best a solid 3rd liner, who are signed through to the same age at the end of their deals. Even factoring in a sudden decline you'd have a serviceable top 9 forward in the final years, which is a worst case scenario.
