All of your variables are indeed factors that could raise the trade value at the draft. However, I honestly don't think they can make up for the rental value of the best defenseman in the league. If you were trading Karlsson
just for this playoff run, that is, if he were a UFA this summer, you'd still expect a sizeable return just for that trade. By leaving it until the draft, you're throwing that value into the trash. I just don't think the larger market of potential suitors that may be available in the summer (which is still going to be mostly contenders and still probably going to be led by Tampa) or changing circumstances for other teams are very likely to tip the scales the other way, given how big a piece he is to a contender that thinks it has a shot right now.
