Kane has definitely gone from trending toward commanding a long term deal with a raise to a 1-2 year show me deal at the same or less money.
If he hits the market and can’t get a long term deal I see him signing with the Oilers for a 1 year cheap deal to play with McDavid. They are desperate for speedy wingers to play with Connor and Kane will need to rebuild his value
