Maybe, but certainly not as newsworthy as a mass school shooting. I don't what those high-profile deaths were but in some cases that's news, such as the suicide of a public figure or someone linked to a public figure.
Names of minors (Medicine Hat) cannot be released, so that's different. If you're hoping that the media will chose not to release information, that's not happening. If you're suggesting laws be made to prohibit release, that's more likely, I suppose, but also not happening.
Your suggestion might achieve your desired aim, but the fact is school shootings are big news and you can't just shut that down. It's a price of living in a free society. (I'm a former member of the media.)
